Recipient Stories

Brandon’s Story

“Receiving this scholarship meant a lot to me. On a personal level, it was very meaningful due to my love and admiration of the Forsyth family and what Steve’s spirit meant to so many people in this community. On a financial level, it helped me to graduate without student loans. I’m proud to say that I signed title paperwork and became a HOME OWNER today!

I graduated from Carroll College in Helena, Montana in 2021 with a degree in Environmental Science. I am now a Water Resource Specialist for the Department of Natural Resources & Conservation for the State of Montana, working on Water Rights and State Dam Monitoring.”

Lucinda’s Story

UPDATE:
“As I wrap up my junior year at the University of Oregon, the Steve Forsyth Memorial Scholarship has continued to be a huge blessing in my life! I have been fortunate enough to receive this fund annually, at the start of every school year, and I am so grateful. As a full time college student who works and is heavily involved in extracurriculars outside of school, the money from this scholarship makes such a difference in my life and eases a lot of my stress around finances.

As someone pursuing a helping career, majoring in Family & Human services, while double-minoring in Sociology and Business Administration, I continue to look up to the Forsyth mission of helping others and the greater community. Thank you to Carla and the board for continuing to believe in me and support me!”

“The Steve Forsyth Memorial Scholarship has made a huge impact on my academic and personal life and I am extremely grateful for it. Growing up in West Linn, and now attending the University of Oregon, I feel a connection to the Forsyth’s and I am so inspired by their mission. Steve was a people person who was eager to learn and lead – I look up to Steve in my everyday life because of these characteristics.

Currently, I am on track to graduate from the University of Oregon in 2026 with a double major in Family & Human Services and Sociology. Because of my passion for helping families and children, I hope to be a child psychologist in the future and I am so excited for what’s to come!”

Hailey’s Story

“When learning of Steve’s story, I felt a personal connection to this scholarship and its message. I took part in the West Linn Students for Change, where we organized two events surrounding the issue of gun violence. I was also intrigued by Steve’s devotion to coaching – how sports have always worked to pull communities together, both the team and the fans in the stands. It is hard for me to describe the burden you have lifted from my shoulders by granting me this honor. To be able to show my parents this honor, and see the look of pride and joy in their eyes was amazing. I am incredibly grateful to receive this scholarship to help pay for part of my college education.”
