Our Mission

The Steve Forsyth Memorial Fund commemorates Steve’s values of perseverance, a passion for self improvement and his ‘can do’ attitude. Our mission is to empower like-minded young people with opportunity and compassion.

We honor Steve’s memory with need-based higher education scholarships for high school seniors and financial support for at-risk (homeless) children within our community.

Our Beginning

The organization has evolved over the past 9 years with the help and dedication of several people, starting with Steve & Carla’s dear friend, Dr. Brett Johnson. Brett took it upon himself to raise funds through a golf tourney held in the Spring at the Oregon Golf Club in an effort to honor Steve. He invited Carla to see him giveaway the first scholarship at the Evening of Excellence awards held at West Linn High School where both of Steve & Carla’s kids attended.

Brett spoke passionately about coaching youth basketball with Steve and what a positive influence he was to others and how he wanted to honor Steve in the community and keep his memory alive. Each year Brett raised more and more money so that the Steve Forsyth Memorial Fund now awards four $2,500 needs-based higher education scholarships annually.

With the generous help and support of others, the Steve Forsyth Memorial Fund officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2019.
