Steve Forsyth Memorial Scholarship
Friends, family and the West Linn community honor Steve by donating to this memorial fund that awards several scholarships to graduating West Linn High School seniors who have a financial need and desire to further their continuing education through a college program or an accredited trade school.
Scholarship Amount: $2,500
Number of scholarships: Up to four per year, depending on funding levels.
Applicant Criteria:
- Applicant is a currently enrolled West Linn High School senior.
- Applicants must have a weighted GPA of 3.0 or better if planning to attend a 4-year college, or a GPA of 2.5 or higher if attending a community college or trade school.
- Demonstrated financial need.
Required Documents:
- Unofficial academic transcript, including GPA.
- Tell us about yourself; your goals, your accomplishments, your challenges and why you want to pursue higher education. We want to get to know you through your statement – what makes you, uniquely you? Please include the University, Community College or trade school you plan to attend.
- Copy of the first page of your parent or guardian’s most recent 1040 federal tax form from the most current tax year. For privacy purposes, please white out your social security numbers.
Application Deadline:
Applications are due in mid-April each year. Exact dates are listed on the West Linn High School website under Scholarship Resources.
Award Date:
Scholarships are awarded annually in mid-May at the West Linn High School “Evening of Excellence” scholarship awards ceremony.
For scholarship winners, a check will be issued directly to your selected post-secondary institution by the West Linn High School accounting office after you’ve registered for school.

The Steve Forsyth Memorial Scholarship was started to honor Steve after he was tragically killed in the Clackamas Town Center tragedy on December 11, 2012.
Steve was father of two amazing kids that graduated from West Linn High School:
- Katie Hughes was V.P. of Associated Student Body who graduated in 2011.
- Alex Forsyth was a captain of the football team when they won the 2016 State Championship, graduating in 2017.
Steve passionately coached youth sports in West Linn for many years; he was loved and respected by players and parents alike.
